Fred, a Manchester United midfielder, has confessed that he used to prefer Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain above Cristiano Ronaldo, but has since altered his mind.
For more than a decade, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated football's most prestigious individual honours. The fact that the two have won 12 of the last 13 Ballon d'Or titles between them is remarkable, with Luka Modric being the lone exception in 2018.
Over the years, the rivalry between Ronaldo and Messi has provoked controversy among fans, analysts, and players. Some people, like Manchester United's Fred, have altered their opinions regarding who is the better of the two. Due to the Argentinean's playing style, the Brazilian has admitted that he once preferred Messi to Ronaldo. After sharing the dressing room with the 37-year-old, Fred has been persuaded to reconsider his position. TNT Sports Brasil [via Manchester Evening News] quoted him as saying:
‘’I used to say Messi because it's a style I prefer. However, after playing alongside Cristiano, I've witnessed firsthand how much effort he puts into every element of his football career. He's always at the right spot at the right time on the pitch. He's the player I've ever seen with the most capacity to turn a game around. I'm going with him right now [instead of Lionel Messi]."
"On and off the field, [Cristiano Ronaldo] is an amazing individual. Every day, he strives to improve, which serves as a vital source of encouragement for all of us, particularly the younger players. He's a role model, to say the least "Fred added to the conversation. This season, Fred has appeared in 20 games with Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United in all competitions. For the Red Devils, the midfielder-forward combination also scored one goal.
